Fritz Kütemeyer

Fritz Kütemeyer (born September 17, 1912 in Hanover ; † December 2, 1989 there ) was a German entrepreneur, sports official and from 1967 to 1973 President of the German Tennis Association .

Life

After graduating from high school, Kütemeyer began an apprenticeship as a locksmith in his father's company. After the master's examination, he completed a degree in economics in Berlin. He then worked for a while as a lawyer in a trade association and finally as an entrepreneur.

Kütemeyer was involved in sports from an early age. After a time as a handball player, he switched to tennis and became a West German champion. In 1950 he took over the chairmanship of the Lower Saxony Tennis Association , from 1951 he was represented on the board of the State Sports Association of Lower Saxony . From 1959 to 1983 he was also chairman of Sporthilfe Niedersachsen . In 1967 he finally became President of the German Tennis Federation and, after retiring in 1973, its Honorary President. The tennis Bundesliga was founded on his initiative . In 1983 Kütemeyer was made an honorary member of the State Sports Association. In addition, he received numerous awards; among other things, the Fritz Kütemeyer Games were named after him.

Kütemeyer died on December 3, 1989 at the age of 78.
