Erich Wandschneider

Erich Wandschneider (* 1899 ; † June 25, 1956 ) was a German lawyer and a well-known German criminal defense attorney .

Life

Wandschneider worked as a lawyer in Hamburg from 1926. Together with Robert Gärtner, he ran a law firm from April 1, 1926 in Hamburg's old town, Ferdinandstrasse 25. He was chairman of the Conservative People's Party in Hamburg. In the Reichstag election in 1930 he ran unsuccessfully for the Conservative People's Party in Hamburg at number 7 on the list. From April 1, 1931, he practiced his practice alone from his office at Mönckebergstrasse 7 in the Levantehaus . In 1932 Wandschneider ran unsuccessfully as the top candidate of the People's Conservative Association of Hamburg for a seat in the Hamburg Parliament . He later became a member of the NSDAP . During the time of National Socialism he took on mandates for representatives of the Confessing Church , for socialists and communists such as Fiete Schulze and in 1934 Ernst Thälmann .

After the Second World War he defended Curt Rothenberger in the Nuremberg legal process , the Nazi propaganda film director Veit Harlan and Ludwig Hahn , the commander of the security police and SD in Krakow and Warsaw , who was jointly responsible for the final evacuation of the Warsaw ghetto in 1943 . He also took over the mandate for the former Krupp board member Heinrich Korschan in the Nuremberg Krupp trial .

Erich Wandschneider died at the age of 58 after a short, serious illness. His son Hajo Wandschneider took over his office in Hamburg .
