Erik Penny

Erik Penny (* in Potsdam , New York ) is an American singer-songwriter who lives in Berlin-Kreuzberg . His music is a mix of guitar pop and Americana . In addition to solo appearances, he also regularly appears with a band, which currently consists of guitarist Ben Barritt, bassist Markus Runzheimer and drummer Tom Osander.

life and career

Erik Penny grew up in El Paso and Los Angeles . At the age of sixteen he began his musical career as a bass player. He later began to study painting, which he interrupted shortly before graduation to go on tour with his band at the time. After two years as a musician, he decided not to return to college and instead went to Los Angeles. There he recorded several EPs and two studio albums as a solo artist. After several visits to Germany, he finally decided in 2008 to move to Berlin. There he managed in a short time to make contacts in the local music scene and to win over well-known musicians and producers to collaborate on his new CD.

Mocky , Sebastian Madsen as drummer, Markus Runzheimer and guitarist Gabriel Gordon (among others a member of the live bands of Natalie Merchant and Andrew Roachford ) were involved in the recordings for this album called Bend , the songs of which were all written in Berlin ) With. The CD, recorded in 2009 and released in March 2010, was co-produced and mixed by Tomte's Simon Frontzek , who also made his own recording studio available and made contact with Sebastian Madsen, the singer of the Madsen band .

In addition to his first solo tour in 2009, he supported Gus Black on his Germany tour in 2008 . In 2010 and 2011 he accompanied Milow , Eli "Paperboy" Reed , Ronan Keating , Madsen , Runrig and Philipp Poisel through Germany. In June 2010, he was confirmed for the 10th funding round of the Initiative Musik , a funding agency of the federal government for the music industry in Germany.

After releasing Live At The Sofa Sessions in 2011, Erik Penny retired from the music industry for two years. It wasn't until the summer of 2013 that he went back on stage and played four concerts as support for Joe Cocker . In the same year Blackbird Music became aware of him. In autumn 2014, the Berlin-based music label released its fourth studio album Heart Bleed Out , which was produced by Erik Penny himself and David Green and recorded in various studios in Berlin and Los Angeles. In addition to his longtime bassist Markus Runzheimer and drummer Earl Harvin, numerous guest musicians can be heard on the album. The release was followed by an extensive solo tour. as well as a tour of Germany with a band comprising several concerts.
