Hamburger Küchensessions is a video blog , a concert series and CD project that offers both newcomers to the singer-songwriter scene and well-known artists a platform. The individual sessions are freely available on the Internet as a video. a. in a separate channel on YouTube , viewable. The project was initiated by Jens Pfeifer in 2010 and has been continuously developed since then. Around 330 artists were presented on the channel and over 9.4 million videos have been viewed so far.

The center of the action is the kitchen in Pfeifer's private apartment in Hamburg, where the artists from the national and international singer-songwriter scene meet to play a video session. The artists play a set that is mostly rehearsed for the kitchen session , either without or in front of a selected audience. The performance is recorded by two cameras, one filming static, the other being guided by hand. The more than 320 guests since the beginning (as of December 2019) include Gisbert zu Knyphausen , Bela B. , Olli Schulz , Dota Kehr , Tom Liwa , Enno Bunger , Bonaparte (band) , Jan Plewka , Ingo Pohlmann , Stoppok , Bodo Wartke and tape recorder .

In addition to the videos, the resulting recordings will be published on (so far four) compilations that appeared on the established independent label hanseklang . In 2014 an 8 LP box was also released with a compilation of all previously published samplers . In addition, the sessions will be broadcast on the Berlin television station ALEX Berlin .

The project "Music Rooms in the Arab World", which has existed since June 2016, was created in collaboration with Goethe Institutes . The Goethe Institutes in the North Africa / Middle East region present live performances in private rooms. Those are organized live as small, local events with an audience in a private atmosphere in Alexandria, Beirut, Bethlehem, Baghdad, Gaza, Cairo, Khartoum, Ramallah or Tunis.

In 2015 the video series was nominated for the Hamburg Music Prize HANS 2015 in the category of Hamburg's best imaging of the year . However, the book Recorded was awarded. Live in Hamburg's record stores by Nicolas Christitch and Katrin Vierkant .

With the artists of the Hamburg kitchen sessions, Pfeifer organizes smaller open-air concerts in the summer months under the name “go out!” And, since 2012, a larger festival in a music club once a year. Up until now, the venues were Uebel & Hazardous and Knust in Hamburg. He values ​​an intimate atmosphere. The main aim is to present as many more or less well-known artists as possible to the public. Pfeifer relies on musical diversity.
