Nicolas Sturm

Nicolas Sturm (* 1982 in Stuttgart ) is a German singer and musician. In addition to his work as a solo artist, he is guitarist and singer in the punk band Alte Neue Tricks . He is also part of the Omaha Records artist network . Sturm is a stage name , his family is of Serbian descent.

Career

At the beginning of the millennium, Nicolas Sturm moved to Freiburg, played in various bands and recorded several solo eps on a four-track cassette recorder, which he published himself. In 2010, Omaha Records released the EP Doppelleben , which was positively discussed in various blogs and magazines. In 2012 Nicolas Sturm's debut album of the same name was released on PIAS / Roughtrade . The album was also received positively by the critics. The Rolling Stone wrote: “On his debut, Sturm writes and sings as beautifully as Gisbert zu Knyphausen is currently at most .” At the end of 2012, Nicolas Sturm played a concert in Saint Petersburg as part of the Goethe-Institut's Musik + X exhibition and performed in the Harald- Schmidt show on. In 2013 Sturm released the "Manhattan EP", which, according to Flight 13 Records, arouses associations with Nick Cave and the early Tocotronic . Nicolas Sturm performed live as a duo, accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Dhôme.

At the end of 2016 his album "Angst Angst Overkill" was released on the Berlin label Staatsakt , on which Sturm deals with the prevailing political and social climate in Germany. Stylistically, it is shaped by the guitar pop of the 80s, namely bands like The Smiths and The Cure . For the intro magazine, Sturm proves with "Angst Angst Overkill" as a "worthy representative of attitude and talent for languages ​​in the German-speaking music landscape". The management has been taken over by the Viennese publisher Stefan Redelsteiner, who works with the Austrian artists Voodoo Jürgens and Wanda , among others, since 2016 . Nicolas Sturm has been giving concerts in full band since 2016. In autumn of the same year a tour with the Hamburg band Trümmer took place .
