Ermenegildo Carlo Donadini (born October 8, 1876 in Vienna , † November 5, 1955 in Dresden ; full name: Ermenegildo Carlo Giovanni Donadini ) was an Austro-German painter and restorer. One of his famous works, the painting "Eliasfriedhof in Dresden", is owned by the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden / Galerie Neue Meister . The picture is signed with "Donadini jr. Dresden" - Donadini Junior Dresden. Carlo Donadini also signed his works with "Donadini Radebeul" (oil painting "Ruin im Wasser", "Dresdner Vedute"), "Donadini. Jr." (Oil painting "Cows"), "Donadini jr. Dresden-Radebeul" (painting "Fishing boats in front of Venice"), "Donadini" (painting "Sala de Ventas").

The son of the artist Ermenegildo Antonio Donadini and Mrs. Ida Donadini (nee Schoch) attended grammar school in Dresden in 1888 , from 1892 to 1893 he was in the preschool of the local Royal School of Applied Arts and from 1893 to 1895 he attended the Royal Saxon School of Applied Arts himself Interrupted by his service as a one-year volunteer with the field artillery in Dresden, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden in 1898 and 1899 . He was a master student of the portrait painter Leon Pohle .

Son Carlo helped his father Antonio Donadini with his restoration work until he retired in 1913 in his vineyard house with a studio in the Rietzschkegrund of Zitzschewig , a current district of Radebeul . From then on, the father tolerated family visits only from his son Carlo, as he had fallen out with his wife and daughters. his house became a museum-like repository for his ever-growing collections, one of which was the admiration for Napoleon.

Carlo Donadini did military service from 1914 to 1918, in which he was wounded in 1916. In 1919 he founded the Association of War Damaged Visual Artists , of which he was honorary chairman. Around 1920 numerous caricatures / depictions of animals / pictures of castles were created, mostly published on postcards / picture cards / joke cards / artist cards.

In the 1920s, Donadini made extensive study trips to Bad Aibling, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Berchtesgaden, Upper Bavaria, Tyrol and Italy, where he devoted himself to landscape and architectural painting. At that time he lived in Dresden on Ostra-Allee.

In the period 1927/1928 he restored the Gothic altars of the Catholic chapel in Kötzschenbroda - Niederlößnitz , at the same time he took over the baroque painting there.

From 1928 to 1934, on behalf of the German-Italian Institute for Marine Biology in Rovigno d'Istria and the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in Berlin, he undertook a research trip on the Mediterranean to determine the migration routes for tuna .

In 1933 he joined the NSDAP . An application for exclusion in 1942 was denied.

After 1945 Donadini lived on a small pension, which he supplemented by selling the art treasures he had inherited from his father.

Donadini was longtime curator and manager of the painting collection of the Wettin on the Moritzburg Castle . He painted numerous portraits of princes as well as those of the Saxon king, which were given as gifts to regiments. There are also various views of churches, especially from Wroclaw and Glogau, as well as pictures of animals, hunting scenes, horse and sport motifs, still lifes and battle pictures. From 1940 onwards, numerous Dresden cityscapes were created.

Like his father, he was buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden-Friedrichstadt.

Donadini was awarded the bronze medal of the Saxon Ministry of the Interior in 1898, he received the gold medal for art and science as well as several war medals.
