Ernest William Meiklereid

Ernest William Meiklereid ( October 12, 1899 - January 12, 1965 ) was a British diplomat .

Life

Ernest Meiklereid studied at Monkton Combe School and Emmanuel College in Cambridge . From 1918 to 1919 he was used in the British Army . In 1923 he had a study visit to Siam , acted as an interpreter and entered the consular service. He was employed in the Dutch East Indies and French Indochina . In February 1932 he was Vice Consul in Songkhla , in October 1932 Vice Consul in Lampang . On December 3, 1934, he was appointed third class consul in Bangkok . From 1943 to 1945 he was Consul General in Dakar .

From 1946 to 1948 he was consul general in Saigon with the administrative district of French Indochina , accredited with Sisowath Monivong and political advisor to Douglas Gracey . In 1946 Nguyễn Văn Thinh asked Meiklereid for 500 rifles for each province in South Vietnam , who referred him to Georges Thierry d'Argenlieu .

From 1948 to 1949 he was Consul General in San Francisco . From 1950 he headed the trade department at the British Embassy in Paris . In 1955 he became Ordinary Knights Commader of the Order of the British Empire . From November 1955 to August 1958 he headed the British delegation to the coal and steel union as ambassador .

Ernest William Meiklereid was married to Katherine Perouse de Montclos from Dinard .
