Ernesto Lamagna

Ernesto Lamagna (* 1945 ; Naples ) is a contemporary Italian sculptor and painter. After completing his classical studies, he was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples , but has lived and worked mainly in Rome for many years .

Life

Lamagna was Secretary of Sculpture at the Pontifical Academy of Fine Arts and Literature from 1998 to 2003 and headed the sculpting class of the artists employed in the Pantheon .

He is the creator of the processional route "Hammer and Cross", which was made in 2000 for the Great Jubilee of the Holy Year and is now in the treasury of the Vatican Museums .

Other works by Lamagna include the design of various medals, for example for the conclusion of the city partner agreement between Paris and Rome in 1992 or for the 25-year pontificate of Pope John Paul II in 2003, here also with the sculpture Ecce mater dulcinesse .

Between 2004 and 2006 Lamagna created the sculptures for the “De Humanitat” exhibition in the European Parliament in Brussels. Since the beginning of 2009 he has been working - as part of a contingent of the Italian military - as an art teacher for Afghan civilians in Herat , Afghanistan.

In the Italian cities of Rome, Turin and Milan there are permanent exhibitions of works by Ernesto Lamagna.

Exhibitions

From the 1960s until the end of the 20th century, Lamagna showed his monumental bronze sculptures in factory exhibitions in Germany , the Netherlands , France , England , the USA and Japan . He also took part in numerous group exhibitions with sculptures - but also with a painting ( Quasimodo ).
