Ernst August de la Chevallerie von la Motte (born November 24, 1688 in Walsrode near Lüneburg , † December 7, 1758 in Magdeburg ) was the royal Prussian lieutenant general , governor of Geldern and bearer of the Order of the Black Eagle .

He comes from the French Huguenot family de la Chevallerie , who had to leave their homeland because of their denomination and went to Braunschweig-Lüneburg . His parents were Simeon de la Chevallerie († February 2, 1698) and his wife Elisabeth de Phelipponneau (* 1663; † 1736), daughter of Jean de Phelipponneau-Montargis de Haute Cour and Elisabeth du Bazin . Life

In 1711 he went to Infantry Regiment No. 17 (Grumkow). In 1721 he became captain and, with a few intermediate stops, on March 2, 1734, colonel. In 1739 he was given the 17 Infantry Regiment . On August 2, 1740 he became major general. Also in 1740 he received the Pour le Mérite .

He fought in the First Silesian War and was able to distinguish himself in the battle of Chotusitz . In January 1744 he became lieutenant general and went to the Second Silesian War in Bohemia. In 1745 he commanded a special corps to fight insurgents in Upper Silesia. He then fought in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg and accompanied the king on the march to Saxony.

In November 1748 he became governor of Geldern and chief of battalion No. 9 there . in February 1757 he was awarded the Order of the Black Eagle . With the beginning of the Seven Years' War he gathered the Prussian troops in Wesel and led them to the observation army in Lower Saxony. During this time, Colonel Salmuth took over command in Geldern, and Friedrich II later made him commandant of Magdeburg. Chevallerie died there on December 7, 1758.
