Friedrich Wilhelm von Salmuth called Beringer (* 1693 in Zweibrücken , † September 13, 1763 in Wesel ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He comes from a Palatinate family that was raised to the nobility in the 15th century . The father was a colonel from the Palatinate , who died in 1706 during the relief of Turin . The commanding general Leopold I had promised his colonel to take care of his children. So the boy Friedrich Wilhelm became his page , and later he promoted his protégé.

In 1744 Salmuth became major in the " Wobeser " battalion . In March 1747 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and commander of the "Wutgenau" infantry regiment . There he rose to colonel in 1753 and became head of the regiment in March 1757 . In January 1757 Salmuth was interim commandant of Geldern in the absence of General de la Motte . When the fortress was attacked, he was able to defend himself valiantly and withdraw with all honors.

In 1758 he was promoted to major general. However, he suffered a stroke in November of the same year , which made him unfit for the field. In 1763 Salmuth received his departure and received a pension of 1,500 thalers . He died on September 13, 1763 in Wesel.
