Ernst Falkenthal

Ernst Falkenthal (born April 5, 1858 - † March 8, 1911 in Stettin ) was a Prussian administrative lawyer and from 1885 to 1887 Imperial Commissioner in the German colony of Togo .

Life

Ernst Falkenthal studied at the Universities of Bonn and Breslau law . In 1876 he became a member of the Corps Palatia Bonn . In the same year he joined the Corps Borussia Breslau . After the civil service he entered the Prussian civil service. In 1884 Ernst Falkenthal was appointed government assessor. In 1885 the German government sent him to the Togo colony, which had recently been brought into German possession by the Africa explorer Gustav Nachtigal . Falkenthal replaced Heinrich Randad as administrator of Togo and Julius Freiherr von Soden as chief commissioner. Falkenthal initially set up its administrative headquarters in Bagida , but moved it to Sebe near Anecho a year later .

At his instigation, the police force in Togo was founded on November 30, 1885. Falkenthal and his Secretary Degree acquired the landscapes Towe , Kewe , Agotime and Agome-Palime in 1886 .

After his work in Togo he resigned from the Prussian administration. Falkenthal was from 1888 to 1901 District Administrator of the district Spremberg (Lausitz) . He died on March 8, 1911 as a senior government councilor in Stettin.
