Ernst Fröhlich (* 1810 in Kempten ; † February 19, 1882 in Munich ) was a German painter and xylograph .

Life

Fröhlich came to Munich with his family in 1820. After completing his school days, he began studying at the art academy there in November 1825 . From 1837 he worked in and around Munich as a freelance painter and lithographer .

In 1840 Fröhlich gave up his studio and went to Mannheim to study at the art academy there. From there he later moved to the Düsseldorf Art Academy with the support of his lecturers . In the autumn of 1848, when the political situation had calmed down somewhat, Fröhlich returned to Munich.

There he regularly illustrated magazines such as “ Fliegende Blätter ” and “ Daheim ” (especially their various supplements). During this time, his woodcuts were also repeatedly found in the “ Münchener Bilderbogen ”. In addition to his work for newspapers and magazines, Fröhlich also illustrated books from various publishers again and again. At the same time, over the years he created his own pictures in which scenes from rural life - e. B. hunting, fishing etc. - predominate from the Bavarian Alps .

Since 1866 Ernst Fröhlich belonged to the Corps Suevia Munich as an honorary philistine.
