Ernst Koch (librarian)

Ernst Albert Koch (born December 16, 1899 in Esperanza , Argentina ; † July 13, 1973 in Gronau ) was a German librarian and head of the library at the Dresden University of Technology .

Life

Koch's father Edmund was a pastor in Argentina from 1898 to 1905 . In Germany, Ernst Koch attended the Melanchthon grammar school in Wittenberg and the grammar school in Greifswald . In 1921 he received his doctorate at the University of Greifswald with the Latin dissertation Ciceronis carmina historica restituta atque enarrata . He then worked at the Thesaurus linguae Latinae in Munich , Volume VI. In January 1926 Koch began his training for the higher service in the library system. He completed internships in Erfurt , at the Deutsche Bücherei in Leipzig and at the university library there. In 1929 he passed the specialist examination for librarians in Leipzig. Afterwards Koch worked in the antiquarian book trade and as a teacher. In 1931 he passed the state pedagogical examination for teaching at secondary schools. From April 1931 he was active in higher education as a study assessor in the subjects of Latin and Greek in Miedzyzdroje . Koch joined the NSDAP as early as 1925 in Munich under membership number 130 . In 1935 he was appointed head of the library at the Technische Hochschule Dresden, and in 1942 he was appointed library councilor. From 1939 to 1941 Koch was active in the army in a Dresden hospital. In 1943 he was called up again for military service, this time to France . He became a French prisoner of war , from which he was released in 1945. In the same year Koch moved from Dresden to Schöningen in the Braunschweig region, and in 1971 he moved to Gronau.
