Ernst Koch (singer)

Ernst Koch (born July 8, 1819 in horse life near Gotha ; † January 18, 1894 in Stuttgart ) was a German chamber singer with a tenor voice , founder of a singing school and music teacher .

Life

Ernst Koch studied in Dresden at what was then the Dresden Conservatory and made his debut as a tenor in 1840. He then received an engagement in Sondershausen , before he was hired by Heinrich Dorn as principal tenor of the Cologne Gürzenich Concerts .

According to the diaries of the composer Robert Schumann , Ernst Koch appeared as a singer in various Schumann concerts.

From 1850 Koch taught teachers at the Cologne Conservatory before founding his own singing school in 1854.

Koch married Mathilde Haberland (1828–1912), the daughter of a lawyer. A son was born to the couple on November 9, 1860 in Cologne, who later became the publisher Alexander Koch .

After the establishment of the empire, Koch first lived in Hanover from 1872 and then in Stuttgart from 1874, where he died around two decades later.
