Ernst Carl Wilhelm Lübcke (born December 16, 1890 in Wolfenbüttel , † December 2, 1971 in Berlin ) was a German physicist who dealt with experimental physics and acoustics .

Life

Lübcke was born as the son of Georg Lübcke and his wife Helene (nee Eichler) in Wolfenbüttel. He attended the humanistic grammar school there , where he passed his Abitur in 1910. He then studied mathematics and physics at universities in Berlin , Heidelberg and Göttingen until 1914 . From 1914 to 1916 he worked as an assistant at the Institute of Applied Electricity at the University of Göttingen and received his doctorate there in Hermann Theodor Simon in 1916 with a thesis about receiving AC curves using the ionizing effect of cathode rays to Dr. phil. (Doctor of Science). He then studied law at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel until 1919 . From 1916 to 1920 he was a research assistant at the torpedo and mine inspection in Kiel .

From 1920 until 1924 he was head of the laboratory at Atlas Werke AG and until 1933 head of the research laboratory at Siemens -Werke in Bremen . In 1929 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University in Braunschweig , where he was given a teaching position for applied physics and contributed to the development of the "acoustic laboratory". From 1935 he worked as an adjunct professor and in 1940 was given a teaching position for building and room acoustics. From 1933 to 1945 he worked as a department head, laboratory director, scientific director and authorized signatory in the dynamo works of Siemens-Schuckert-Werke AG in Berlin, where he dealt with noise elimination on electrical machines. Lübcke took over the chair for acoustics and mechanical vibrations at the TH Berlin from 1945 to 1946 and was also deputy head of department at the Heinrich Hertz Institute for vibration research in Berlin at that time .

From 1946 to 1953 he was registered as a professor for experimental physics at the University of Rostock , but until 1951 he was engaged as a specialist in scientific work in the Soviet Union , where he was employed in Leningrad . Since 1955 he has been an honorary professor for technical acoustics at the TH Berlin.

Lübcke wrote several physical books and writings, which extend in particular to the field of acoustics. His fields of activity included vibration generation , noise control, sound measurement and room and building acoustics . In addition, he dealt with mercury vapor discharges and metrological problems.
