Ernst Laves

Ernst Karl Theodor Laves (born August 2, 1863 in Hildesheim , † October 1, 1927 in Hanover ) was a German scientist , pharmacist and chemist .

Life

His apprenticeship and apprenticeship as a pharmacist took place in Calvörde , then, between 1886 and 1888, he studied chemistry in Freiburg and graduated in 1888 with the state examination. He then became a second assistant at the chemical laboratory at the University of Freiburg . In 1891 Laves received his doctorate in Würzburg on the subject of knowledge of polysulfones. Physiological-chemical studies on protein nutrients. He then became the first assistant at the Physiological-Chemical Institute at the University of Strasbourg . In 1895 he was appointed head of the chemical laboratory and pharmacy in the Hanover City Hospital. By the way, from 1899 Laves became a private lecturer for food chemistry and physiological chemistry at the Technical University of Hanover. In 1913 Laves completed his habilitation and became a professor , after which Laves ended his activities in the hospital. After the First World War , Laves also gave up teaching at the Technical University in Hanover. His scientific work on lecithin preparations, for which Laves received patents, led to the development of various pharmaceutical preparations. The best known was lecin. In 1908 Laves founded the lecin factory in Hanover. In 1920 he became a founding member of the Lower Saxony student union in Hanover. Laves died in a traffic accident in 1927, his son Wolfgang Laves took over his work.

The block-like tomb with the inscription "Family Ernst Laves" and a sculpture was erected at the Engesohde city cemetery .
