Ernst Stizenberger (born June 14, 1827 in Konstanz ; † September 27, 1895 ibid) was a Baden , German doctor and botanist ( lichenology ). Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Stizenb. "

biography

Stizenberger studied medicine and natural sciences in Freiburg from 1844 (where he studied botany with Alexander Braun and geology and mineralogy with Karl Fromherz ) with a doctorate in medicine in 1850 with a palaeontological dissertation (overview of the fossils of the Grand Duchy of Baden). In 1848/49 he also studied in Zurich. He then continued his studies in Vienna and Prague before settling down as a doctor in his hometown of Konstanz after passing the state examination (1851). He was also the senior doctor of the city hospital for many years, second forensic doctor and from 1852 a visitor to the pharmacies.

As a botanist, he dealt with lichens and algae. For example, he worked on the lichen of the Novara expedition and the lichen collection of Robert Reuleaux in North America.

On November 15, 1863 ( registration number 2003 ) he was given the nickname Hedwig III. Member of the Leopoldina .

He first described the lichen genus Anzia .

In addition to botany, he was passionate about music (he played the harmonium) and wrote a musical history of Baden. Stizenberger was the leader of the Baden People's Party. He was an external member of the St. Gallen Natural Science Society , in whose annual reports he published a lot, and a corresponding member of the Natural Research Society in Zurich .
