Ernst Theodor Rietschel

Ernst Theodor Rietschel (born May 21, 1941 in Gießen ; also Ernst Rietschel ; Ernst-Theodor Rietschel ) is a German chemist . Rietschel is a great-great-grandson of the sculptor Ernst Rietschel .

Life

He received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg in 1971 and his habilitation in 1978 , before working as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota and then at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology . In 1980 Rietschel became a professor at the Medical University of Lübeck (subject area "Immunochemistry and Biochemical Microbiology" ). From 1980 he was also director of the Borstel Research Institute (now the Borstel Research Center - Leibniz Center for Medicine and Biosciences ).

Rietschel was President of the Leibniz Association from 2005 to 2010, succeeding Hans-Olaf Henkel . His successor in this office was the sociologist Karl Ulrich Mayer since 2010 .

From June 2013 to the end of 2015, Rietschel was CEO of the Berlin Institute of Health .

Awards and memberships

Other awards include the Ordre national du Mérite , the Aronson Prize from the Senate of Berlin and an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne . He is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS).
