Career

After studying law in Berlin from 1829 to 1832 , Ernst Viebig entered the Prussian civil service. He began as a government trainee in Magdeburg in 1833 and was a government assessor in Merseburg in 1838 . In 1840 Viebig became interim. District administrator in the Gnesen district , Posen province and in 1845 he was a councilor in Posen .

From May 29, 1848 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly for the constituency of Posen . He joined the majority faction of the National Liberals, the so-called casino faction , which included such well-known MPs as Friedrich Daniel Bassermann , Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann , Johann Gustav Droysen , Georg Waitz and others. In the course of negotiations on the constitution of the future Germany, the so-called Landsberg parliamentary group split off from the casino in September 1848 (the parliamentary groups were generally named after their conference venue), which Ernst Viebig also joined. The new group called for a strengthening of central authority and parliament and, accordingly, for a weakening of national powers. On May 21, 1849 Viebig ended his membership.

He was then transferred as a councilor to Sigmaringen , which had become Prussian in 1849 , and later, in 1858, to Trier as a senior councilor . Finally, in 1868, he became Deputy District President in Düsseldorf, a position he held until his death in 1881.
