Ernst Wursthorn (born August 2, 1941 ) is a former German ski jumper .

Career

Wursthorn started skiing as a child. He achieved his first successes at local championships and the district youth ski day. Although he quickly achieved good results in ski jumping , Wursthorn started out as a Nordic combined athlete . After narrowly missing out on qualifying for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , he concentrated a little later on jumping. In 1969 he was accepted into the national team and made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1969/70 . However, he missed the breakthrough and finished the tour only in 96th place overall.

At the German Championships in 1970 Wursthorn won his first German championship title.

With the Four Hills Tournament 1971/72 Wursthorn denied his most successful tour. With rank 21 on the Great Olympic Hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he also achieved his best individual tour result. In the overall ranking he reached the 26th place.

For the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he had fulfilled the norm and qualified for a starting place, but the German Ski Association decided not to allow Wursthorn to travel to the Olympics because he was now 30 years old. Then there were protests among fellow athletes and a public demonstration in Freiburg im Breisgau . At the ski flying world championship 1972 in Planica Wursthorn reached the 40th place. At the German championships in 1972 he won his second national title.

Ernst Wursthorn opened his first ski lift on Wirbstein as early as 1971, and the Thurner lift followed later. After his active career he became a trainer for cross-country skiing and ski jumping and trained young jumpers such as Timo Wangler , Nico Faller and Tobias Simon . With his wife Gertrud he runs the Waldesruh guest house in Waldau near Titisee-Neustadt .

Wursthorn's brother Albert , 13 years his junior, was also active as a ski jumper on an international level.
