Tobias Simon (born August 15, 1992 in Titisee-Neustadt ) is a German Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Simon made his international debut, who started with the combination sport at the age of seven in 1999, at FIS competitions in September 2006 in Winterberg . On March 3rd, 2007 he won the Junior Gundersen competition in Toblach . From September 2008 Simon started in the Nordic Combined Alpine Cup . As early as October he achieved his first top 10 placement in this series in Oberstdorf . On January 10th, 2009 he made his debut in the Nordic Combined Continental Cup in Klingenthal . With places 37 and 33, he narrowly missed the points. He continued in the Alpine Cup until the end of winter and was on the podium for the first time in Liberec . At the following European Olympic Winter Youth Festival 2009 in Szczyrk , Simon won the gold medal in the team competition after bronze in the sprint and fifth place in the Gundersen individual together with Otto Schall and Manuel Faißt .

In August 2009 Simon started the Nordic Combined Grand Prix for the first time in Einsiedeln and immediately scored points in the Gundersen singles with 16th place. However, it remained the only start in his first season in this series, which he finished 35th overall. In the winter of 2009/10 he started again in the Alpine Cup, before he was back in the Continental Cup at the end of January 2010 in Bischofshofen , where he achieved the points twice. Despite this respectable success, Simon stayed in the Alpine Cup for another year. In January he got a permanent place in the Continental Cup, but it was difficult to place in the points. Only in Szczyrk and Kranj did he succeed four times in a row. As a result, Simon started again in the Alpine Cup and celebrated a podium again in November in Ramsau am Dachstein in second place. Back in the Continental Cup, he made it into the top ten twice in Erzurum, Turkey . At the following Junior World Championships in 2012 in Erzurum, he won bronze with the team. In the individual competitions he achieved two good placements among the top twenty.

After he competed in a successful Summer Grand Prix in summer 2012 with an overall rank of 22nd, Simon got a starting place in the Nordic Combined World Cup for winter 2012/13 . After finishing just behind the points in Lillehammer at the end of November , he collected his first World Cup point with 30th place in Kuusamo . He collected further points in February at the Almaty World Cup , which, however, did not include large parts of the world's elite. In the end he reached rank 55 in the overall World Cup ranking. After failing to win a point at the Oberwiesenthal and Oberstdorf Grand Prix in the summer, he did not get a World Cup entry for the 2013/14 season. So the winter began for him with the start at the Winter Universiade 2013 in Predazzo . Neither in the individual competitions nor in the team competition did he win a medal. A few days after the Universiade, he traveled to the World Cup in Schonach . There he remained, as in the following Tchaikovsky World Cup, without any points. Then Simon switched back to the Continental Cup.

On January 24, 2015, Simon achieved his first Continental Cup victory in Planica . At the following Winter Universiade 2015 in Štrbské Pleso , he won the gold medal in a team competition together with Johannes Wasel and David Welde . Before that, he was also ahead in the individual competition after jumping, but was only ninth after poor cross-country skiing. In February he finished seventh at the Continental Cup in Klingenthal. After finishing the Continental Cup season in ninth place, he played in the Grand Prix once in the summer and scored points again in 16th place. At the end of August he was sixth at the German championships. In the 2015/16 season , Simon won his second Continental Cup in Pyeongchang . In 2017, Simon won silver in the mass start at the Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan. He also took fourth place with the German team. He also completed the ski jumping team and helped them to a fifth place.
