Ernst von Malortie's tomb in Hanover is a work by the sculptor Carl Dopmeyer from 1886. The location of the listed tomb for the Oberhofmarschall and last leading minister of the Kingdom of Hanover , Oberhofmarschall Ernst von Malortie , is the Herrenhausen Cemetery on Kiepertstrasse in Hanover-Herrenhausen .

history

One of the pages with the - wrongly labeled - grave plaque

The sculptor Carl Dopmeyer had already progressed with the work for the Malorties tomb, in which the Oberhofmarschall was significantly involved, as early as 1886, a year before the death of the minister, who died on October 11, 1887. This is shown by the - misspelled - inscription “C. DOPPMEYER 1886 FEC ”(double“ P ”) on the pedestal of one of the two page figures .

Tomb was prepared from a -ton block of sandstone generated, at the foot end a relief - medallion with the portrait of the baron was incorporated by Malortie. Originally the grave was enclosed with an iron fence , which was later removed from the sandstone base.

Around August 20, 1995, one of the two page figures was stolen. The theft , in which a mounted on the back of the tomb crest was canceled, was immediately to the police station in stocks reported that the relevant state police informed as a memo from the time occupied .

The remaining page figure of the monument in need of restoration already received a new grave plaque made of sandstone with the life data of the deceased. Bizarre : The inscription with the name of “Ernst Baron v. Malortie Oberhofmarschall ”, mistakes have occurred again: The date of birth is given as“ 5. ”instead of October 15 , 1804, and the date of death is 1884 instead of 1887.
