Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm Bernhard Georg Ludwig Maria Alexander Prince of Solms-Braunfels (* March 12, 1835 in Düsseldorf , † March 7, 1880 in Braunfels ) was a Hessian nobleman , captain , member of parliament and politician .
family
Ernst zu Solms-Braunfels came from the Hessian noble family Solms-Braunfels , which was raised to the rank of imperial prince in 1742 . His parents were Wilhelm Prinz zu Solms-Braunfels (1801–1868) and Maria, née Countess Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau (1809–1892). In 1873, Ernst succeeded his second uncle, Ferdinand zu Solms-Braunfels, who died childless, in the class rule. Ernst zu Solms was not married and had no children. His brother Georg became heir . His paternal grandparents were Friedrich Wilhelm zu Solms-Braunfels and Friederike von Mecklenburg-Strelitz , who later became Queen of Hanover.
Life
In 1873, Ernst zu Solms-Braunfels was inherited from the estate of Braunfels. This was linked to a hereditary seat in the Prussian manor house . Although he was listed as a member of the manor house, he had not joined it. From 1873 to 1880 he was a member of the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse , represented by his brother Albrecht zu Solms-Braunfels .
"Ernstbahn"
Prince Ernst zu Solms-Braunfels was the founder and owner of the Ernstbahn , this first narrow-gauge railway, as well as the companies Hermann Schreiber, Wissen, (Clöserweide mine) and De Dietrich & Cie., Niederbronn (Fortuna mine). Prince Ernst zu Solms-Braunfels (Ottilie, Gutglück and others mines) and the Hermann Schreiber company (Clöserweide mine) found a company to build a mine railway to connect their ore mines in the Isertal to the Lahn valley railway. The concession for a mine railway between Braunfels and Philippstein was granted.
