Prince Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Casimir Georg Carl Maximilian zu Solms-Braunfels (born December 30, 1801 in Triesdorf , † December 12, 1868 in Mödling ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Wilhelm was a member of the German dynasty of Solms-Braunfels and nephew of King Friedrich Wilhelm II. He was the first-born son of the Prussian major general Friedrich Wilhelm Prince of Solms-Braunfels (1770-1814) from his marriage to Princess Friederike von Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1778– 1841). The generals Alexander Friedrich Ludwig zu Solms-Braunfels (1807–1867) and Carl zu Solms-Braunfels (1812–1875) were his immediate brothers. Since his mother, who was first married to Friedrich Ludwig Karl of Prussia (1777–1796), widowed a third marriage with Duke Ernst August von Braunschweig-Lüneburg , were also General Friedrich von Prussia (1794–1863) and King Georg V. von Hannover (1819–1878) his half-brothers.

Military career

Wilhelm began his officer career in December 1812 at the cadet school in Berlin . He was promoted in 1820 to second lieutenant and was the Gardes du Corps aggregated . He was promoted to prime lieutenant in 1825 and to Rittmeister in 1831, after which he was transferred to the 4th Dragoons Regiment . In 1832, he retired as a Major with army uniform out .

In 1836 he received the Grand Cross of the Brunswick House Order of Henry the Lion and in 1837 also the Grand Cross of the Hanoverian Guelph Order .

Wilhelm became leader of the 2nd contingent of III. Battalion of the 29th Landwehr Regiment and was given the character of lieutenant colonel in 1842 . The Grand Cross of the Saxon-Ernestine House Order was awarded to him in 1843. In 1845 he was still leader of the 2nd contingent of the 1st Battalion of the 29th Landwehr Regiment, but since 1850 he has only been led as à la suite , and in 1853 as a Colonel à la suite of the 2nd Guard Landwehr Cavalry Regiment. In 1858 he changed from the army to officers à la suite with the character of a major general . Finally in 1862 he received the character of Lieutenant General.
