Heinrich XIV. , Prince Reuss younger line, Count and Lord of Plauen, Lord of Greiz, Kranichfeld, Gera, Schleiz and Lobenstein (born  May 28, 1832 in Coburg , † March 29, 1913 in Schleiz ) was an imperial prince from the House of Reuss . From July 11, 1867 until his death he was Prince of the Principality of Reuss junior line and from April 19, 1902 also regent of the older line . On October 15, 1908, his son Heinrich XXVII took over . in both principalities the reign.

Life

Heinrich XIV. Was the eldest son of Prince Heinrich LXVII. Reuss younger line and the Princess Adelheid Reuss zu Ebersdorf (1800–1880), daughter of Prince Heinrich LI. Reuss zu Ebersdorf (1761-1822).

Heinrich attended the grammar school in Meiningen and on March 23, 1850 became a second lieutenant in the princely Russian federal contingent, where he did practical service for a few months. From the end of October 1850 he studied history and legal history at the University of Bonn . On August 9, 1853, Heinrich transferred to the Prussian service and worked on foot in the 1st Guard Regiment until he was retired on June 27, 1859 .

He stood à la suite of the army and last held the rank of general of the infantry . Heinrich was also chief of the Jäger Battalion No. 4 and in the Saxon Army chief of the 2nd Jäger Battalion No. 13 .

After his accession to the throne, in 1869 he donated the Princely Reussian Cross of Honor , the Reussian House Order .

In 1902 the younger Reuss line also took over the reign of the Principality of Reuss older line, because this after the death of Heinrich XXII. no longer had a successor capable of governing ( Heinrich XXIV was severely disabled due to an accident). As regent of Reuss' older line, Heinrich XIV ended the anti-imperial orientation of politics there and dissolved all anti-imperial institutions.

Marriages and offspring

Heinrich XIV. Married on February 6, 1858 in Bad Carlsruhe Princess Agnes von Württemberg (1835-1886), daughter of the Duke Eugen of Württemberg (Second Silesian line) and Princess Helene of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. The couple had two children:

  1. Heinrich XXVII. (1858–1928) ⚭ November 11, 1884 in Langenburg Princess Elise zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg (born September 4, 1864 in Langenburg; † March 18, 1929 in Gera)
  2. Elisabeth (born October 27, 1859 in Gera; † February 23, 1951 at Hungen Castle) ⚭ November 17, 1887 in Gera Prince Hermann zu Solms-Braunfels (1845–1900)

On February 14, 1890 married Prince Heinrich XIV. Leipzig in morganatic marriage Friederike Graetz (born February 28, 1851 in Frankfurt am Main, † May 22, 1907 in Dresden), as wife of Saalburg on 28 May 1890 in the peerage was raised. With her he had a child:

  1. Heinrich Freiherr von Saalburg (born November 4, 1875 in Leipzig; † February 23, 1954 in Lunden) ⚭ April 23, 1924 in Hamburg Margarethe Grönwoldt (born February 9, 1893 in Hamburg; † July 24, 1965 there)
