Prince Bernhard Friedrich Wilhelm zu Solms-Braunfels (born July 26, 1839 in Liechtenstein Castle near Mödling , † February 17, 1867 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer.

Life

Bernhard was a member of the German dynasty of Solms-Braunfels . He was the son of Prince Wilhelm zu Solms-Braunfels (1801–1868) and Countess Maria Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau (1809–1892), daughter of Count Franz de Paula Joseph Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau and his wife Countess Therese von Wrbna and Freudenthal . His paternal grandparents were Friedrich Wilhelm zu Solms-Braunfels and Friederike von Mecklenburg-Strelitz , who later became Queen of Hanover.

Prince Bernhard died of a wound he received during a duel with the Hanoverian officer Erhard Graf Wedel .

Career

1859 Joined the Austrian military . 1861 first lieutenant in the cuirassier regiment of King Max von Baiern No. 2 in Kecskemét ( Hungary ). 1864 Rittmeister in the cuirassier regiment Emperor Franz Joseph No. 1 in Güns . 1866 Royal and Imperial captain in the 11th artillery regiment.

Prince Bernhard remained unmarried. In 1866 he was on war operations in Hungary and fell in love with a young middle-class woman whom he wanted to marry. However, various circumstances prevented the marriage, and so it was with a heavy heart that he separated from her.
