Alexander zu Solms-Braunfels (Major General)
Prince Alexander Friedrich Ludwig zu Solms-Braunfels , (born March 12, 1807 in Königsberg , † February 20, 1867 in Marxheim ) was a Prussian major general .
Life
origin
Alexander was a member of the German dynasty of Solms-Braunfels and nephew of King Friedrich Wilhelm II. He was the second-born son of the Prussian Major General Friedrich Wilhelm Prince of Solms-Braunfels (1770-1814) and Princess Friederike von Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1778-1841). The generals Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich (1801–1868) and Friedrich Wilhelm Karl (1812–1875) were his immediate brothers. Since his mother, who was first married to Friedrich Ludwig Karl of Prussia (1777–1796), widowed a third marriage with Duke Ernst August von Braunschweig-Lüneburg , General Friedrich von Prussia (1794–1863) and King Georg V were also . von Hannover (1819–1878) his half-brothers.
Career
Alexander began his officer career at the cadet school in Berlin before he was promoted to secondary lieutenant at the age of 16 . In 1825 he was aggregated to the Guards Dragoon Regiment and classified in the following year. He was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in 1834 and Rittmeister in 1835 . As such, he was aggregated to the 4th Dragoons Regiment and was supposed to serve at the General Command of the VIII Army Corps . In 1835, however, he was squadron chief in the 8th Hussar Regiment . In December 1837 he received the Grand Cross of the Brunswick House Order of Henry the Lion . His promotion to major took place in 1842 with simultaneous aggregation in the 12th Hussar Regiment . In February 1843 he was honored with the Grand Cross of the Saxon-Ernestine House Order . Finally, in 1845 he became a regular staff officer of the 3rd Hussar Regiment . Ibid. In March 1848 he was initially "ad interim" and confirmed regimental commander in May . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1850 and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with ribbon , in 1851 . Also in 1851, he rose to colonel in 1853 and was with the character of major general his farewell to board .
family
Alexander married in 1863 with Baron Luise von Landsberg-Velen (1835-1894), daughter of the Prussian chamberlain and member of the manor Engelbert Freiherr von Landsberg-Velen auf Steinfurt and Hermine Countess von Hatzfeldt-Schönstein. The marriage produced a son.
