In 2007, the ETUC companies closed the capability gap between conventional infantry and special forces . For this purpose, one company was specially trained in each of the four paratrooper battalions of the Bundeswehr.

The four paratrooper companies "EGB" and the two parachute special trains are each subordinate to one of the two paratrooper regiments. Part: 2 survival and penetration

The first two days are followed by a three-day penetration exercise in which the aspiring ETUC soldiers have to cover up to 70 km with heavy luggage. The participants are systematically pushed to their limits by having to cope with tasks under constant stress and sleep deprivation. They are accompanied by a psychologist and experienced EGB soldiers, who get a precise picture of the physical and psychological suitability of the applicants. If qualified, the prospective EGB soldier then goes through six-month basic training at the Special Operations Training Center in Pfullendorf.

During the six-month extended training course, the soldier undergoes extensive shooting and hand-to-hand combat training , medical and survival courses, troop exercises and simulated deployment scenarios under aggravated conditions.

After the subsequent basic training, the prospective EGB soldier receives the so-called combat-ready status (German: “ready to fight”) and is deployed in one of the four ETUC companies. Depending on the area of ​​application, this is followed by further specialization in the areas of telecommunications technology , weapons , explosives and pioneering , medical services , mountain combat and amphibious operations .

At the end of the basic training the special badge SpezlKrH EGB is awarded. In addition to their grade-related salary, the graduate receives a monthly EGB allowance, with other armed forces-specific allowances being offset.

The SpezlKrH EGB have been in various areas of application since they were set up . This was initially the case as the Quick Reaction Force and as part of Task Force 47 during the International Security Assistance Force mandate. Further missions by SpezlKrH EGB took place within the framework of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali and Capacity Building Iraq .

Current deployments take place within the framework of Resolute Support as personnel recovery forces and as direct tactical support for special forces.
