Erwin Zillinger

Erwin Zillinger (born June 1, 1893 in Dresden ; † August 24, 1974 in Lübeck ) was a North German church musician, organist and composer .

Life

Zillinger, who came from Dresden, studied church music in Leipzig from 1913 to 1916 , especially with Karl Straube . He found his first job in 1919 at the Schleswig Cathedral . He was involved in the organ movement , together with Günther Ramin and Hans Henny Jahnn . In 1930 the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schleswig-Holstein appointed him its first regional church music director. From 1936 he taught at the State Conservatory for Music in Lübeck, which later became the Lübeck University of Music . In 1939 he was appointed church musician at Lübeck Cathedral as the successor to Wilhelm Stahl . After the destruction of the historic Arp Schnitger organ in the cathedral in 1942, Zillinger concentrated on choral work and in 1948 founded the Lübeck Cathedral Choir. His successor was Uwe Röhl in 1967 .

Zillinger's estate is kept in the Lübeck city library .
