The Archdiocese of Freetown ( Latin Archidioecesis liberae Urbis , English Archdiocese of Freetown ) is an in Sierra Leone situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Freetown .

history

Pope Pius IX founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Sierra Leone on April 13, 1858 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of the two Guineas and Senegambias . With the Apostolic Constitution Laeto accepimus she was raised to a diocese on April 18, 1950 and took the name of the Diocese of Freetown and Bo .

With the bull Quantum boni it was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric on November 11, 1970 . On January 15, 2011, the Archdiocese was divided into the Archdiocese of Freetown and the Diocese of Bo .

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
