The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Conakry ( Latin Archidioecesis Konakriensis ) is in Guinea situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Conakry . It covers the western part of Guinea.
history
Pope Leo XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture of French Guinea on October 18, 1897 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariates of Senegambia and Sierra Leone . On April 18, 1920, it was raised to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate .
On May 12, 1949, it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Kankan and at the same time took the name, Vicariate Apostolic Conakry. With the bull Dum tantis on September 14, 1955 it was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric.
