The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dakar ( lat. : Archidioecesis Dakarensis ) is a Senegal located Metropolitan Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church , based in Dakar .

history

The forerunner of today's archdiocese of Dakar is that of Pope Pius IX on February 6, 1863 . Founded Vicariate Apostolic Senegambia, from January 27, 1936 under Pope Pius XI. renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Dakar. Pius XII. elevated the Vicariate to the Archdiocese of Dakar on September 14, 1955.

Suffragan dioceses are Kaolack (1965), Kolda (1999), Saint-Louis (1966), Tambacounda (1989), Thiès (1969) and Ziguinchor (1955).
