The Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint-Louis du Sénégal ( Latin Dioecesis Sancti Ludovici Senegalensis ) is in Senegal situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Saint-Louis . It includes the three regions of Saint-Louis , Louga and Matam .
history
Pope Clement XIII. founded the Apostolic Prefecture Sénégal in 1763 from cession of territory by the diocese of Funchal . On January 27, 1936, with the Apostolic Constitution Non semel Apostolica, she took the name, Apostolic Prefecture Saint-Louis du Sénégal.
On February 15, 1966 she was raised to the diocese with the Bull Christi Ecclesia and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dakar as a suffragan diocese.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- May 6, 1931 to the Mission sui juris Gambia
- December 18, 1965 to the diocese of Nouakchott
- August 13, 1970 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Tambacounda
