The Bistum Ziguinchor ( latin : Dioecesis Ziguinchorensis ) is an in Senegal preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Ziguinchor . It includes the Ziguinchor region .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Ziguinchor with the Apostolic Constitution Ut inter infideles on April 25, 1939 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Dakar. On July 10, 1952, she was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate .
On September 14, 1955, she was raised to a diocese with the Bull Dum tantis and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Dakar as a suffragan diocese.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- January 21, 1957 to the Apostolic Prefecture of Kaolack ;
- December 22, 1999 to the diocese of Kolda .
