The Espangraben is a right tributary of the Kästleinsmühlbach , which in turn forms a branch of the Schambach near Treuchtlingen in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district in Central Franconia .

The Espangraben rises south of the municipality boundary to Weißenburg in Bavaria at an altitude of 424  m above sea level. NN between Dettenheim in the north and Schambach in the southeast. It flows steadily in a south to south-westerly direction, parallel to Bundesstraße 2 in the east and the eastern slope of the Nagelberg in the west. The river forms the northern boundary of the Schambachried nature reserve . The Espangraben opens at an altitude of 418  m above sea level. NN northeast of Treuchtlingen and west of Schambach from the right into the Kästleinsmühlbach.
