The Schambachried in the Treuchtlinger Schambachtal is about eleven kilometers long and is one of the oldest and, at 7.1 hectares, the smallest nature reserve in Middle Franconia . It is located 1.5 km northeast of Treuchtlingen and half a kilometer west of the village of Schambach in the Bavarian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen . The valley is traversed by the eponymous Schambach, which, coming from the east, flows into the Altmühl near Treuchtlingen . Places, mills and farmsteads of this Jura valley are downstream near the origin Laubenthal , then Suffersheim , Potschmühle , Hammermühle , Flemmühle , Obere Papiermühle , the place Schambach, the Untere Papiermühle and finally Treuchtlingen. In Suffersheim, next to the foundation walls of a medieval church, there is the new Gunthildis chapel , built in 1993-95 , which has the shape of an ammonite . In the nature reserve there is a very rare lime moor , a former litter meadow . Pipe grasses , small sedge , orchids and cotton grass grow in the valley .
