The Nagelberg is 541.7  m above sea level. NHN high, wooded mountain in the Franconian Alb low mountain range near the town of Treuchtlingen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

The mountain is located in a conservation area , about 2 km north-east of the old town of Treuchtlingen in Altmühltal . The Altmühl flows west of the mountain in a southerly direction. On the opposite side of the valley is the Patrich , which already belongs to the Hahnenkamm ridge , north of the mountain, the municipality boundary to the city of Weißenburg in Bavaria . In the northwest is the village of Graben , northeast of Dettenheim . The southernmost point of the Rhenan-Danubian watershed is located between Dettenheim and the summit of the Nagelberg . To the east of the mountain is the Schambachried nature reserve and about 2 km from the village of Schambach . Bundesstraße 2 runs in between . The Kästleinsmühlbach flows along the southern flank, on which are the Kohlmühle , Lehnleinsmühle , Kästleinsmühle and the nearby Weinbergshof . Gstadt is located west of the mountain on the opposite side of the Altmühl .

The Nagelberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Franconian Alb (No. 08), in the main unit Southern Franconian Alb ( 082) and in the subunit Altmühlalb (082.2) to the natural area of ​​the Treuchtlinger Pforte (082.21).

On the mountain there is a field of funnel pits dating back to prehistoric times, on the southern flank there was a Roman villa rustica . The listed war cemetery on the Nagelberg is located on the western flank . Over 2,545 war victims from both world wars are buried on the cemetery, which was consecrated in 1961, on an area of ​​around 0.8 hectares, making it the third largest war cemetery in Bavaria.

In the northern area on a plateau is the Hexentanzplatz , a barbecue area with a shelter. According to legend, witches from the area meet there on Walpurgis Night . There is a transmission mast just south of the summit . On the southwest slope, near the Weinbergshof, there is an elevated water tank . The structure, which was built in 1978 and renovated in 2018, includes two basins with a total of 2500 cubic meters of water. It makes the main contribution to the Treuchtlingen water supply.
