The Kästleinsmühlbach is a right branch of the Schambach am Unterlauf and flows into the Altmühl at the Kästleinsmühle opposite Treuchtlingen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen about three kilometers before the main arm of the brook .

The Kästleinsmühlbach leaves southwest of the village Schambach and not far from the federal highway 2 at an altitude of 419  m above sea level. NN as a side arm the bed of the lower Schambach to the right. At first it flows steadily in a north-westerly direction and then bends south-west to west. The river flows through a wide open landscape south of the Nagelberg and west of the Laubental . It counts several tributaries, including the Espangraben and finally the Augraben , which it previously partially feeds. The flowing water runs through several wetlands, including the Schambachried nature reserve . After the Kästleinsmühlbach has flowed through the mills Kohlmühle , Lehnleinsmühle and the eponymous Kästleinsmühle, it flows out at an altitude of 409  m above sea level. NN east of Treuchtlingen from the left into the Altmühl.
