Estate was a five-piece post-hardcore band from Linz in Upper Austria . The band had existed since 1996, but underwent a profound line-up and change of direction at the end of 2003 / beginning of 2004, which redefined the goals of the band, especially in terms of music, and, from the outside, represented a new foundation without a name change. Estate was signed to the record of the year independent label .

Estate were known for their extremely energetic live concerts. This is particularly evident from the high number of live concerts that were played.

history

Distance

Their first demo called Distance was recorded in 1998 under the name BURP , shortly before the release the band renamed itself to Estate . Originally planned as a 5-track demo or EP , further songs were written and recorded on the advice of the head of the label in order to bring the CD to the playing time of a "full" album . The sound carrier was released in early 1999 on the Linz indie label Suspect Records , but the band itself regards Distance as a demo CD today . At the time of recording, the band consisted of Michael Forstner (drums), Josef Mayer (vocals), Paul Schausberger (bass) and Thomas Waldner (guitar).

Unsound

At the beginning of 2001 guitarist Thomas Waldner left the band for professional reasons and was replaced by Armin Breuer. With a new guitarist on board, 14 songs were recorded in the CCP studios in Linz in autumn 2001 , all but one of which were released as a debut album Unsound . The 14th song, the outtake "The Mirror", was later made available for download on the band's website. The CD was released in March 2002 via Suspect Records / SPV .

At the beginning of 2004 the band experienced a serious setback when singer Josef "Zap" Mayer decided to leave the band for professional reasons. There were still a few concerts played in the course of the year, but Estate put the touring on hold for a few months. The band had also collected enough new song material for an untitled second album, which was never recorded due to the loss of the singer.

Arson Architecture

In the autumn of 2004 Leo Pissenberger, who temporarily took over the vocals for Josef Mayer (up to now with Lawfoundguilt on the electric bass ), became a permanent member of the band, which initiated the change of direction already mentioned. The songs that should have formed the second album were for the most part completely discarded, and some were massively revised.

At the beginning of 2005 the contract with the Suspect-Records label expired and the band decided to record a 6-song demo on their own to show bookers and promoters how they would sound, and to find a new label to join publish a new album. Since the band did not want to withhold these recordings from the concertgoers, they released the six songs in June 2005 according to the DIY principle as an EP called Arson Architecture . The edition was limited to 800 pieces. This was followed by consistently positive reviews in various e-zines , fanzines and print media .

Shortly afterwards the cast carousel turned again. In summer 2005 Estate decided to add a second guitarist to the line-up, Bernd Himsl joined the band. Just a few months later, bassist Paul Schausberger left the band to study in Australia and was replaced by Bartosz Antoszewski.

The Opposite of Indifference

At the beginning of 2006 Estate signed with the Berlin label Record Of The Year and started work on their second album, which was recorded in April / May 2006 in Linz in their own No Budget Studio and in June 2006 in the Principal Studios , where bands like Waterdown , Caliban or the Donots , mixed and mastered by Toni Meloni. The 12-song album includes 6 new songs as well as new recordings of the 6 songs that were already heard on the Arson Architecture demo , which is now sold out. The CD is titled The Opposite Of Indifference and was released on September 1, 2006 via Record Of The Year / Pängg , which was celebrated with a record release party at the Posthof in Linz, at which, in addition to Estate, Ephen Rian , Lawfoundguilt , Outsmarted and Suneral played.

Live presence

Estate used all periods to gain ample live experience. The band played concerts in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium and acted as the opening act for bands such as Boysetsfire , Bleeding Through , The Hope Conspiracy , Snapcase and many others. 2006 stood u. a. Concerts in Great Britain on the tour schedule.

Dissolution / change of name

At the end of 2007, the band announced their breakup and re-formed under the name The Cassidy Scenario without the guitarist Armin Breuer. At the end of May 2008 the first live performance under a new name took place in Micheldorf (Upper Austria), and a little later in April they published their first demo song Ruin On / Off on their Myspace page.

style

Stylistically, the band can be compared both with well-known, commercially successful post-hardcore bands with a strong metalcore influence , such as From Autumn to Ashes , as well as with more emo- oriented postcore groups such as Silverstein .

The band's sound is shaped by melodic metal riffs and the vocals, which alternate between poppy melodies and shouted parts. The sound is based on fast, hard, but harmonious hardcore punk sounds.
