Esther Horn's artistic work includes painting , drawing , installation wall painting and animation . Since 2006 she has also worked as a curator and exhibition maker. Together with Christian Heilig , she founded the Berlin art project montanaberlin , which received numerous grants a. a. of the Berlin Senate .

In 2011 she made a discovery in Pablo Picasso's early work that also affects the development of Cubism and Picasso's position in modernity. In an essay about this, Esther Horn shows that Picasso left contemporary developments far behind him long before 1905 and the beginning of the blue period and prepared a new conception of the image. The central content of this new conception is the reversal of the conception of the pictorial space as a window, which has been binding since the Renaissance. Horn points out that a self-reflective position was already laid out in Picasso's early work that points well into the 20th century and forms the basis for the Cubist conception of images. With the text she initiated the exhibition Picasso. Window to the world in the Bucerius Kunst Forum 2016 in Hamburg, in whose catalog it will be published for the first time.
