Etepe Kakoko

Etepe Kakoko (born November 22, 1950 in Kinshasa , Belgian Congo ) is a former Congolese football player .

Athletic career

The striker's first stop was Imana Kinshasa in his Congolese homeland. In 1977 he moved to Germany for VfB Stuttgart . There he first played in the amateur team. Under coach Willi Entenmann he rose in 1979 with the team in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and took first place there as a promoted team. As a striker duo with İlyas Tüfekçi , he played a decisive role in this, while this one with 18 goals this season was tied with Roland Vogel and the later VfB striker Fritz Walter behind Uwe Hertweck and finished second on the scorers list, he had been successful 15 times in 28 season games. Although the team was not eligible for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , they qualified for the 1980 amateur championship . There, after successes over Borussia Neunkirchen and KSV Hessen Kassel , she reached the final against FC Augsburg , in which Bernd Frick and Gunnar Weiß scored the Stuttgart team with a goal against Klaus Perrey to a 2-1 win and thus to the title. Although he contributed 17 goals in the following season to the runner-up behind SV Sandhausen , it was not until the 1981/82 season before he completed a game in the Bundesliga for the VfB professionals. The game against Werder Bremen in December 1981, however, remained in the third division league despite another 19 goals this season - so he was second on the scorers list behind Manfred Grimm - his only professional appearance for the Swabians.

In the 1982/83 season he switched to 1. FC Saarbrücken . Here the Congolese quickly became a crowd favorite. By 1984 he played 49 times for the club, including 27 games in the second division . Of the 23 goals he scored for Saarbrücken, he scored nine in the second-highest German division. After two seasons at FC Kakoko moved to Borussia Neunkirchen , where he finally ended his professional career.

Etepe Kakoko was in the Zaire squad at the 1974 World Cup in Germany and played two games during the tournament. In total, he wore the jersey of the national team of his home country over 50 times .

In 1973, Kakoko was fourth in France Football magazine's choice of African Player of the Year.

Etepe's son Yannick is also a soccer player.
