Ettore Manni (born May 6, 1927 in Rome , † July 27, 1979 there ) was an Italian film actor .

Life

Manni dropped out of his architecture studies (after never finishing medicine and law) to play in Luigi Comencini's girl trafficking (La tratta delle bianche) and, thanks to his looks, his presence and his existing acting skills, developed into a great hope of the Italian cinemas. Among other things, he played alongside Sophia Loren ; several times he portrayed Mark Anton . After initial comedies and sentimental dramas, Manni was often seen in other period films in later years and then in spaghetti westerns, where he could not maintain his level and was seen in increasingly obscure films and roles from the 1960s . In some films he appeared under the pseudonyms Red Carter or Arturo Manny .

When his career again held better roles in the mid-1970s, Manni killed himself while filming Fellini's City of Women (La città delle donne) with a shot in the groin and bled to death. His death remained a mystery as it could never be determined whether it was suicide or an accident. Fellini's prop contained several firearms during filming, especially since Manni, in his final role, “Dr. Xavier Katzone “played a gun freak and womanizer. After the death of his wife Krista Nell (1946–1975) Manni suffered from depression.
