Eugen Wachberger

Eugen Wachberger (born October 17, 1904 in Linz ; † May 13, 1971 in Vienna) was an Austrian architect , designer and university professor .

Live and act

Wachberger completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter before studying with Carl Witzmann at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1922 to 1925 . From 1925 to 1930 he worked as a freelance architect in Linz and from 1929 was the chief architect of the apartment and settlement exhibition in Linz. From 1931 to 1934 he studied in the master school Clemens Holzmeister at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . Study trips took him to France, Italy, Greece, Denmark, Sweden and other countries.

From 1931 to 1963 he was a freelance architect in Vienna and Linz. He and Erich Boltenstern have been working together for many years, particularly on projects for the Austrian National Bank . His assistant to Clemens Holzmeister at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1937/38 and from 1946 to 1963 finally led to his appointment as associate professor in 1957 . From 1961 to 1963 he took over the master school from Clemens Holzmeister on an interim basis after his retirement , after which he was assistant to Ernst Plischke . His work for the Academy of Fine Arts was interrupted in 1938 when he was removed from office. He returned there in 1946, as did Erich Boltenstern (1945) and Clemens Holzmeister (1950).

Wachberger was a member of the Austrian Werkbund from 1928 , CIAM from 1929 , CIAM Austria from 1946 and the Central Association of Architects in Austria from 1931 (1966 Vice President). He was a member of the artists' association MAERZ .
