The European Cultural Convention - English European Cultural Convention , French Convention culturelle européenne - is an international treaty of the Council of Europe , which was laid out for signature in 1954 , with the aim of developing mutual understanding and mutual recognition of cultural diversity in Europe, to preserve European culture and national Promote contributions to the common European cultural heritage while respecting the same core values. With a focus on languages, history and society, the agreement helps stimulate common cultural measures and activities of European interest.
The European Cultural Convention was opened for signature by the Council of Europe in Paris on December 19, 1954 and entered into force on May 5, 1955 after three countries had ratified the agreement. Signing it is one of the prerequisites for participating in the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
The agreement was ratified by all 47 member states of the Council of Europe, as well as by Kazakhstan , Vatican City and Belarus . This makes it one of the few cultural-political documents that are valid throughout Europe to this day.
The youth sector of the Council of Europe with the European Youth Office , the European Youth Centers and its co-management structures with the Advisory Council on Youth (AC) and the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ), covers all countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention as the youth sector was originally under the Directorate for Education, Culture and Sport.
