The Hochschule Fresenius is a private , state-recognized and accredited university for applied sciences . It is divided into five departments: Business & Media, Health & Social Affairs, Chemistry & Biology, Design and Onlineplus. The sponsor is the Hochschule Fresenius gGmbH, a subsidiary of COGNOS AG.

history

The university goes back to the Chemisches Laboratorium Fresenius founded by Carl Remigius Fresenius in 1848 and the associated laboratory school. In 1931 the Fresenius School of Chemistry received state recognition for training chemical technicians . In 1962 the chemistry school and research laboratory were separated and the chemical technician training was supplemented by an engineering degree. Three years later the chemistry school was upgraded to an engineering school. In 1971 it was officially recognized as the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences with a degree in chemical engineering .

In 1995 the university moved from Wiesbaden to Idstein . 1997 the takeover of the vocational school for speech therapy in Darmstadt , which has been based in Frankfurt am Main since 2010 . In addition to the originally only chemistry department, the economics & media and health & social departments were added in 1998. The university was renamed in Europa Fachhochschule Fresenius . The Cologne location was founded in 2003, the Zwickau location in 2004 (which was closed in 2016), and the Hamburg and Munich locations in 2008 . In 2008 the name was changed to Hochschule Fresenius .

In 2012 a location was opened in Düsseldorf . In the same year, the departments were restructured and the school and academy models were introduced. Since then, the courses have been assigned to different schools.

In 2013, the business & media department was expanded to include a school and an academy: As an international branch of the university, the International Business School in Cologne and Berlin offer study programs in English. With the Business Academy Fresenius (BAF), a special training area was set up in Cologne in 2013, whose training programs aim to make the transition from work and study smooth. The Faculty of Business & Media at Hochschule Fresenius has had a study center in Berlin since 2014/15.

A study center was opened in New York City in 2016 . Since 2016, the University at the newly founded department offers OnlinePlus first time distance learning courses as the undergraduate programs Business Administration , Business Psychology , Media and Communication Management and Health Care Management and Master's programs in Media and Communication Management, and Health Care Management. The Carl Remigius Medical School was founded in 2016, but remained part of the university's medical faculty under university law. The fifth department of the university bundles the distance learning courses in an online study concept. The Wiesbaden location was opened in March 2019.

Accreditation and Certifications

The Hochschule Fresenius is officially recognized by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art . The courses at all locations are based on the Hessian Higher Education Act. The university subjects itself to a regular review of the entire institution by the Science Council . The Hochschule Fresenius is audited and certified annually in terms of quality management and organizational development by the certification organization CERTQUA.
