Eva Kurowski (* 1965 in Oberhausen ) is a German jazz - musician and singer .

Life

Kurowski's father Walter is a jazz musician and plays in many clubs in the Ruhr area (K-14 in Oberhausen, Blue-Note in Eisenheim), so that even as a child his daughter was constantly surrounded by jazz. From 1982 Kurowski sang himself and got to know many musicians, including her sponsor Helge Schneider . From 1983 she was regularly on stage with him and Uwe Lyko .

In Stangenfieber , Helge Schneider's first short film , she sang the theme music and played the second leading role. While working on this film, Kurowski got to know the filmmaker Christoph Schlingensief and designed the opening program in his Mülheim film club 69 . Under the direction of Alfred Edel she worked with television broadcasts on.

In 1992 Kurowski founded “Eva her band” with Christian Brockmeier (piano), Dieter Stein (double bass) and Mike Gosen (drums). She traveled as a duo with the pianist Martin Scholz. In 1997, recordings for the Tim Isfort Orchestra and Blixa Bargeld followed . In 2002 Kurowski published her first CD: Reich ohne Geld with a different line-up (HC Petzoldt (p), Norbert Hotz (b) and Boris Biebl (dr)). It was produced by Helge Schneider.

Her book Avanti Popoloch was published in 2008. In 2012, God smeared no sandwiches: a childhood between Lenin, jazz and liver sausage .

music

Kurowski writes music and lyrics himself. The basis is a classic, often playful jazz sound. Her texts, written from an emphatically female perspective, draw on everyday life in the Ruhr area and move between hits, children's songs and jazz songs.
Some jazz standards translated into Ruhr German are also part of the repertoire. The classic The Girl from Ipanema becomes z. B. The woman from Castrop-Rauxel .
