Uwe Lyko
Uwe Karl Heinrich Lyko (born September 22, 1954 in Duisburg-Neumühl ) is a German cabaret artist and comedian . Lyko's alter ego is the character of the recalcitrant pensioner Herbert Knebel from Essen - Altenessen , whom he embodies on stage and in many television appearances.
Life
After primary school in 1968, Lyko initially learned to be a telecommunications worker , an apprenticeship he broke off in 1970 to become a musician. Lyko joined the political punk band B1 as a singer and got to know a part of the later “monkey theater” there. After leaving the band, Lyko decided to become an actor. So he occasionally appeared in the Duisburg Eschhaus Theater. Ultimately, he decided to become a comedian and founded the musical theater "NIC" (Nonsense Improvisation Co.). There, out of a situation of embarrassment, the smoking number was the first piece of what would later become the "monkey theater". After the music theater "NIC" had dissolved, he appeared for a few numbers at another music theater in Mülheim an der Ruhr with Helge Schneider . But since the two did not harmonize, Lyko left Mülheim and appeared together with a few friends in January 1988 at the solidarity festival at Essen's Carl colliery, where he performed some skits and pieces of music with members of the original cast of what would later become the “Affentheater”. The original cast of the "Affentheater" consisted of Susanne Betancor , Uwe Lyko, Kalle Mews and Martin Breuer as well as Sigi Domke .
Herbert Knebel (since 1988)
In 1988 Lyko created his most successful character to date, Herbert Knebel, and founded the comedian group Herbert Knebel's Affentheater . Herbert Knebel, an insulting and nagging pensioner who lives with his wife Auguste "Guste" in Essen - Altenessen , speaks a German from the Ruhr area with a strong Lower Rhine-Duisburg character. After Susanne Betancor and Kalle Mews left Herbert Knebel's monkey theater, Detlef Hinze was brought into the band. The position of Betancors was not filled again. When Sigi Domke left the “Affentheater” in 1992, the East Frisian native Georg Göbel-Jakobi became a member of the group. Since then the following positions and roles have been filled in the “Affentheater”: Uwe Lyko (“Herbert Knebel”, author / vocals / guitar / trumpet ), Martin Breuer (“Ernst Pichel”, author / bass / saxophone ), Detlef Hinze ( drums ) and Georg Göbel-Jakobi (guitar). In 1993 Detlef Hinze developed the character "the trainer" and in 1995 Georg Göbel-Jakobi followed with his character "Ozzi Ostermann".
In addition, Lyko plays solo appearances, musically supported by "Affentheater member" Göbel-Jakobi.
He had a permanent place in the radio show U-Punkt on WDR 2 for a long time. Since 1996, in his role as Herbert Knebel, he has been part of the regular crew of the cabaret television show Mitternachtsspitzen .
Lyko also played alongside Wilfried Schmickler in the midnight peaks regularly in the parody Loki and Smoky, the role of former Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt . Since Loki Schmidt's death in 2010, he has appeared with Schmickler in the series Overrated Couples in World History in various roles (e.g. as Die Geissens , Angela Merkel and Joachim Sauer and, until his death, still as Helmut Schmidt). After Helmut Schmidt passed away in 2015, another episode with Loki and Smoky in heaven was broadcast at the end of the year .
