Eva Stotz

Eva Stotz (born June 5, 1979 ) is a German documentary film writer , director and producer. Her works are determined by the examination of the term home , the social impact of globalization , and social developments through urbanization .

Live and act

After graduating from the Anna-Essinger -Gymnasium in Ulm , Eva Stotz studied French film history at the Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier . Her first short film L'après-midi won several awards at festivals. From 2001 she studied film directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) . She made her first full-length documentary film Earth in Hand in 2004 in Transylvania ( Romania ) on the multi-layered concept of home . Eva Stotz is a member of the Super-9 film collective, which she founded in 2005 together with eight other directing students from the dffb.

For her second full-length documentary film Sollbruchstelle about the emotional power of work, she received the award of the city of Duisburg endowed with 5,000 euros at the 32nd Duisburg Film Week 2008. For this film, too, she was awarded the advancement award endowed with 15,000 euros at the 2009 German Television Award.

The small television play promotes her graduation documentary film Global Home, in which Eva Stotz deals with the topics of xenophobia and hospitality using the worldwide online host service Couchsurfing . The film premiered at the renowned SXSW (South by Southwest) festival in Austin, Texas and was screened at numerous international festivals.

In 2013 she founded her own production company in Berlin ronjafilm. With this she produces her short documentary One Million Steps, which tells the Gezi protests in Istanbul solely through non-verbal languages ​​such as rhythm, movement and dance. The main actress is the Amsterdam tap dancer Marije Nie. The film premiered at the Istanbul Film Festival Documentarist in 2015, was shown at over 100 festivals and received 12 awards (including the Jury Prize of the 34th International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA) (Montréal, Canada), audience award and best documentary film at the 13th Cinedans - Dance on Screen Festival Eye (Amsterdam, Netherlands), audience award and best documentary at the 39 (Grenzland-Filmtage Selb, Germany), best experimental film at the 26th Bamberg Short Film Festival). It was broadcast on Swiss television SRF in the show Sternstunde .

In 2015 she received an artist grant from the Foreign Office and the Goethe Institute Istanbul in the Istanbul district of Tarabya . There Eva Stotz developed her first audiovisual performance Moments of Movement, where she "put on" documentary images, mostly from her film archive, to live music and dance. The performance was invited to Limerick as the opening show of the Light Moves Festival, as well as to the Ulm town hall .

Since 2017, Stotz has been working as a curator and workshop leader on the art project Labor in a single shot by Harun Farocki and Antje Ehmann. Together with Antje Ehmann she gives workshops in Vilnius (2017), Marseille (2018), Chicago (2019), Shanghai (2020) and Bogota (2020).

In 2019 her first interactive work Field Trip goes online. Field Trip is an interactive documentary film about the past, present and future of the Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin. Together with the media partner Der Tagesspiegel , the living documentary will go online on May 12, 2019.
