Evan Zhu (born August 15, 1998 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is an American tennis player .

Career

Evan Zhu played about 50 matches on the ITF Junior Tour, but never reached a high position in the junior world rankings there.

In mid-2016 he began playing tournaments with the professionals and immediately reached his first final in September on the ITF Future Tour , the third highest tournament category. At the same time he began studying at the University of California, Los Angeles , where he also played college tennis . During his studies he can only play a few tournaments but still managed to finish in the top 1000 of the world rankings in 2016 . In 2017 he reached another final, which allowed him to maintain his ranking at the end of the year.

He had more success in doubles. There he won his first two future titles in 2017 and 2018 and, with his college partner Martin Redlicki, was able to win a wildcard for the ATP World Tour event in Newport , where they lost at the beginning, and a wildcard for the earn US Open a month later . Here, too, the pairing lost in two sets at the start of the tournament. Nevertheless, Zhu achieved his best value in the ranking list in doubles with rank 613.
