Protestant church

The Protestant parish church is a listed church building in Frömern , a district of the city of Fröndenberg / Ruhr in the Unna district , in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The original building was a Romanesque hall church with three bays . The 9.5 × 14 m nave was flat-roofed and had a semicircular apse. It was created after 1000, the exact date of construction is not known. The church was originally under the patronage of John the Baptist : that St. John was venerated as the patron saint of this church can be seen from a letter from the year 1401, because in it she is called St. John .

In the 13th century the nave and tower hall were vaulted in a Gothic style , for which purpose the outer walls were raised. In the 14th century the apse was replaced by a Gothic choir . During the Seven Years' War , the nave was badly damaged in a fire in 1761. The ship was completely renewed while retaining the still usable assemblies. This church was demolished about 100 years later due to its dilapidation, the masonry of the 18-meter-high tower with a square floor plan was preserved.

In 1876, the Arnsberg building inspector A. Hartmann built today's church as the third verifiable church. In the central nave bays there are hanging domes between arched transverse barrels . The apse is slightly drawn in, it is semicircular on the inside and seven-sided on the outside. A new bronze bell was installed in 1895; two of these bells were melted down in 1917, as were the organ's front pipes . New bells were inaugurated in 1927, and two more bells were requisitioned during World War II . To replace this, cast steel bells were inaugurated in 1949 . In the same year, the nave slate roof was repaired. The chancel was redesigned in 1968. The outer walls of the nave were anchored in 1983 and 1984, and the organ was renovated at the same time. The window glazing in the choir was renewed in 1986, that on the north and south sides in 1991 and 1995.
